Mary
jane stilettos shoes are the most stylized Mary jane on the market.
The classic Mary janes from the 1950s are still very popular. Less
developed but also very popular are the platform styles with 3 to
5 inch chunky heels.
Mary jane stilettos shoes go one step further. They take the tall heal worn in punk rock and goth subcultures and add a stiletto heel. The stiletto heel removes the shoe even further from its original roots.
Mary jane stilettos shoes are not only stylish but provide commentary on 20th century mores. Since the original Mary janes were so common this more stylized version seems to subvert the suburban idealization of the 50s. This is even more accented when the wearer adds knee-high socks and completes the ensemble with a schoolgirl style skirt and a hint of irony.
